Widening the Circle of Care

Caregiving has various connotations within diverse social and cultural settings. Within First Nations communities, caregiving may be understood as a central practice of reclaiming identity teachings from colonial systems healthcare. Our community-based participatory research project explored the experiences, needs, strengths caregivers Mohawk Nation Kahnawake in what is currently called Canada. Through partnership with local cancer support group hospital, we recruited six to create digital stories caring for others living community. We then screened discussed significance community members at world café event. The resulting themes emerged responses: (1) gifts teachings, (2) being there, present, (3) circle(s) care. discuss these community’s recommendations strengthening sustaining Kahnawake.
